Reason for Listening: T Rex is one of two bands I love that were HUGE in the UK, but never really caught on over here (Slade being the other). Most folks now know Electric Warrior (or at least 'Bang a Gong'), but this album is far and away their best. Marc Bolan goes all over the map stylistically here, while still maintaining the 50's-style guitar riffs and trippy poetry lyrics that define the T Rex sound.

This band probably had the biggest influence on my musical tastes-- I discovered them by accident in the mid-70s, when rock started to get overblown (Yes/Rush/Tull) or stupid (Skynyrd/Doobies), and they steered me into a totally different musical world.
